An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Sustainability Officer to join Aje. Based at the new Sydney Head Office and reporting directly to the Head of Operations, this role will see you responsible for the development, management and implementation of the Aje Collectives sustainability programs and strategies. You will play a pivotal part in understanding the Aje Collective impact on the environment, resource consumption, supply chain practices, community engagement, employee engagement and the impact of their business practices or products and services in general. The Sustainability Officer is also responsible for leading technical support, education and business development projects, ensuring sustainability is integrated seamlessly into all business considerations and budgets. 


As a Sustainability Officer, your tasks will include:

 

  • Complete a global audit of current local and global sustainability initiatives, and report on their effectiveness and progress quarterly 
  • Work cross-functionally across the business to create and implement sustainability project plans and micro strategies that are aligned to our Aje Aware pillars and support individual department engagement and compliance. 
  • Assist in the development of metrics, targets and tracking functionality that enable the monitoring of the performance of the sustainability initiatives, and allow us to report both internally and externally in a transparent and timely way. 
  • Monitor, evaluate, review and report on the performance of all sustainability projects and plans, making active recommendations for responding to learnings and improvements where necessary. 
  • Take a proactive stance in monitoring all future-state goals and projects and play an active role in surfacing  sustainability impacts or considerations at early stage, and managing execution at deliverance stage. 
  • Assess and analyse existing company policies and processes to identify areas in, and processes to which improvements can be made in accordance with the Aje Collective’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and human rights advocacy. 
  • Develop the Aje Collective’s sustainability projects, policies and best practices, that reflect the goals and objectives of the business
  • Manage the Aje Collective’s annual sustainability and charitable initiatives budget, ensuring accurate phasing for priority initiatives throughout the year.
  • Lead any internal training and engagement activities and workshops, supporting our ongoing cultural value of ‘Impact with Purpose.’

 

You will bring: 


  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in a mid to senior role leading initiatives relating to CSR, sustainability, sourcing or environmental impacts. Ideally  within fashion and/ or retail.. Must have experience in a field which  manufactures offshore. 
  • Tertiary qualifications in one of the following academic fields; environmental science, environmental sustainability or other related fields which would allow best-in-class knowledge of practise frameworks and relevant industry resources. 
  • Strong working knowledge of CSR best practices, and/or future obligations for companies of all sizes - from SMEs through to publicly listed.
  • Proven ability to engage with community and other stakeholders to deliver innovative and successful presentations and training on behalf of the company.
  • A passion for continuous development of your theoretical understanding of sustainability, local policies, and business sustainability issues. 
  • Strong advocacy of environmental standards and ethics, able to engage others to consider and manage accordingly for their  projects 
  • Strong data management, research techniques, budget management and reporting skills
  • Able to adapt quickly to industry changes and internal priorities, adjusting recommendations accordingly through developed evaluation, analytical and problem solving skills 
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and influencing skills, to build personal and organisational credibility and build beneficial internal and external relationships
